eVetPractice Software Updates ver. 19.80

In version 19.80 of eVetPractice, released on 7/16/2019, we've taken your feedback into account and simplified a few key areas of the workflow where information was getting missed or wasn't showing up where you expected it. 

Here's a quick rundown of what's changed:

  • eVetPractice can now auto-populate the rabies tag field with the number after the last one entered if you're using sequential tags
  • You can set the system to prompt you to complete items when checking out to ensure all treatment items are flagged as complete (and that you've entered all the necessary tag numbers and expiration dates)
  • There's now an available prompt to make sure you enter missing client birthdates when dispensing controlled substances

  • Previous account balance payments will now show what invoices contributed to the balance paid on the Sales Report

  • We've again fixed some bugs - note the ones with 3-up postcard printing and deposit dates, which were causing issues for several practices

  • While it's not specifically part of this release, we released our Covetrus Ordering Integration (formerly Henry Schein Animal Health) to general availability on July 1. Check out the details of that integration here.


If you would like your rabies tag field to auto-populate with the number after the previous tag number entered for a patient, take advantage of this new feature! 

  • NOTE: This feature is only suitable in jurisdictions where sequential numeric rabies tag values are used.

The example below shows the prompt that appears when a rabies vaccination is given to a patient. The window will appear displaying the rabies tag number to be assigned to the current patient. Previously, this field would've been blank and require keyed entry. With the new feature enabled, you just need to verify the number, avoiding potential for mistyping and saving time.


As always, you should verify this number against the actual number printed on the tag. Opening a new set of tags? No problem! The tag number is always modifiable, and the next prompt will start counting form there.

If this feature sounds like it would work for your practice, here's how to enable it:

  1. From the General tab under Settings, expand Miscellaneous Settings.
  2. Check the box next to Rabies tag number is generated sequentially based on the previous one given to a patient.
  3. Click Save.



Prompt to Complete Treatment Items

There are a couple of different ways to add treatments to a patient in eVetPractice, and certain methods don't flag items as complete on entry. Items that haven't been marked complete may be missing information like rabies tag numbers, and if vaccinations aren't flagged as complete, they won't appear in patients' vaccine logs. 

To remind you to complete items before checking out, we've added the ability to flag items as complete when going to check out, and if you do so, we'll prompt you for any missing information at that time. 

If there are treatments on the patient's record that are not complete and the user proceeds to checkout, the following message will appear:


The same prompt will appear when manually closing invoices as well.

Regardless of whether you choose to complete items at this time, you'll still be able to proceed to checkout.

If prompting to complete items sounds like a good option for your practice, enable the setting under General Settings.

  1. To turn on the prompt, from the General tab under Settings, expand Payment History/Invoice/Estimate Settings.
  2. Check the box next to Prompt to complete treatment items that are incomplete at checkout of the invoice.
  3. Click Save.



Prompt for Client Date Of Birth

For controlled substance reporting, most states require clients' dates of birth. Previously in eVetPractice, it was pretty cumbersome to make sure you'd entered this information at the time of the visit, and if you remembered to do so, it required leaving the area of the record where you were working.

To help you stay compliant (and save you a little time and frustration), an option has been added to Medical Record Settings to prompt for the client's DOB at checkout if they're paying for a controlled substance and their date of birth is blank.

Below is a screenshot of the prompt that will appear when going to check out if a controlled substance has been added to the invoice and the client's date of birth is blank. For clarity, this prompt will not appear if they have a DOB previously entered or if there are no controlled substances on the invoice.


Like the other features in this release, you'll have to opt into this prompt. Here's how:

  1. To turn on the prompt, from the General tab under Settings, expand Medical Record Settings.
  2. Check the box next to Prompt for missing client DOB at checkout for controlled substances.
  3. Click Save.




Prior to this release, you may have noticed a little information missing from the Transactions section of the Sales Report. If you received a second payment against an invoice first paid on a prior date, that payment would indicate "No items were processed for this transaction." which, while technically true from a reporting perspective (those items were processed when the first payment was made), wasn't quite enough information for users. Here's what it looked like before:


Now under the Transactions section of the Sales Report, the report will include the invoice number(s) that a payment either partially or fully paid off.  This information will be available in the report View, Export, and PDF. Screenshot below:




  • The Controlled Substance Log will now delete entries of removed inventory items that had the quantity changed to zero.
  • Changing the package price or adding comments for a package line item will not affect the service date.
  • The template for patient reminder postcards has been modified so the practice name will not get cut off.
  • If the Deposit Date is updated to the current day, it will continue to print on the End of Shift report.
  • Changes to any billable item will not change the price of an item currently on a treatment when the treatment is on a closed or paid invoice. Also, this change will not cause the Payment History or Sales Report to change.
  • Changing a past deposit date to the current date will retain the fact that the payment is a deposit.
